Abstract

This article deals with the theme of forgiveness and its relationship with love and gratitude. The starting point for the development of this study will be the text Lk 7.36-50. Luke presents the story where Jesus is anointed by a sinful woman who had her sins forgiven. The aim of this study is to investigate whether the demonstration of love of a forgiven person is the cause or the effect of forgiveness. To accomplish this, the methodology used was the exegetical and theological study. The study of the following understanding: forgiveness received by Jesus creates a new and abundant love that fills and directs all life and action of the person who receives it, leading to a new relationship with God and with one another. In addition, forgiveness generates gratitude towards the one who released the forgiveness, which is gratitude manifested through attitudes of affection, admiration and voluntary service.
