Abstract

Objective To evaluate the clinical effect of amniotic membrane transplantation combined with mitomycin C application for recurrent pterygium.Methods A retrospective randomized study was performed on 100 cases of recurrent pterygium treated by amniotic membrane transplantation combined with mitomycin C application in our hospital form June 2010 to June 2013.They were randomly divided into group A and group B.Group A underwent amniotic membrane transplantation combined with mitomycin C application for 5 minutes.Group B only accepted amniotic membrane transplantation.The recurrence rate and surgical complications were compared between the two groups.Results The recurrence rate and incidence of surgical complications in group A were lower than that in group B (P < 0.05).Conclusion Compared with amniotic membrane transplantation alone,amniotic membrane transplantation combined with mitomycin C application is safer and more effective in the treatment of recurrent pterygium.
