Abstract

The decomposition of ammonium formate using palladium catalyst in methanol was studied. The reaction was carried out at laboratory temperature, atmospheric pressure, and in the absence of hydrogen acceptors. Evolved gases were determined using chromatographic analysis and volumetric analysis. Decomposition rate constants and activation energy were computed and determined using these obtained data. Subsequently, the influence of water and cyclohexene present in the reaction mixture upon the course of ammonium formate decomposition was monitored.
