Abstract

THE idea for this symposium originated in the Committee on Animal Nutrition, National Academy of Sciences—National Research Council and was proposed to the Program Committee of this 60th meeting of the Poultry Science Association.“Amino Acids in Avian Nutrition” is an appropriate subject for a symposium for several reasons. Amino acids are fundamental units both of structure and of function in animals. Much of the work of animal nutritionists in recent years has been directed toward a better understanding of interrelationships among dietary amino acids and other nutrients and effects on metabolic functions and on economy and efficiency of production. This work has produced a voluminous literature, and there is a great need for comprehensive and critical reviews.
