Abstract

Two groups of healthy premature infants were studied. By feeding one group with about 2.5 g protein per kg body weight and the other with about 5 g protein per kg body weight a positive correlation between protein intake and urinary excretion of the following amino acids could be shown on the 10th day of life: proline, citrulline, α-amino- n-butyric acid, valine, homocitrulline, cystathionine, leucine, methionine, tyrosine, phenylalanine, ornithine, lysine, histidine and 3-methylhistidine. Median values for excretion of individual amino acids and percentiles are given.
