Abstract

All component prepared from adult chicken hemoglobin was separated into α and β polypeptide chains by column chromatography. Of the two chains, the a polypeptide chain was digested with trypsin. The soluble tryptic peptides thus obtained were isolated and purified by column chromatography and paper chromatography. On the other hand, the a polypeptic chain in AH component was digested with chymotrypsin. The chymotryptic peptides thus obtained were isolated and purified by column chromatography and paper chromatography the same way as in the case of tryptic peptides. The amino acid compositions of these tryptic and chymotryptic peptides were analyzed.
