Abstract
Tyrosine hydroxylase, tryptophan hydroxylase, and choline acetylase were measured in various parts of the cat brain following stereotaxic placement of a unilateral caudate or septal lesion. The caudate lesions produced no significant changes in enzyme activities in any of the regions studied, while septal lesions caused severe drops of both hydroxylases in the caudate and of tryptophan hydroxylase and choline acetylase in the hippocampus and amygdala. The results are interpreted as additional evidence for hippocampal and amygdaloid innervation by serotonergic and cholinergic neuronal systems arising in or passing through the septal area.
