Abstract

Tertiary amines were synthesized from the corresponding alcohols using amination catalysts, especially copper stearate and nickel stearate. A mixture of copper and nickel stearates shows high catalytic activity and selectivity for the amination reaction of aliphatic alcohols. The catalytic activity decreased as a result of sintering. In order to prevent sintering, the addition of alkaline earth metal stearates was examined. Barium stearate was the most effective stabilizer for the catalyst. The effect of addition of barium stearate is discussed.
