Abstract

This review aims to provide insight into the design, synthesis, characterization, and application of metallogels derived from low molecular weight organic gelators or organometallic gelators based on amide functional compounds. The future of amide functionalized metallogel holds a myriad of potential applications as new smart materials in the area of sensing, sequestration, catalysis, optoelectronic application, and as a template for the preparation of selective and sensitive nanomaterials. In this context, a brief overview of amide functional metallogels is provided. The incorporation of metal in the form of nanomaterials, metal–organic compounds, and metal ions into the matrix integrates the properties of the organic component with the specific properties of the metal ions. The pure organic compounds can barely meet up these features and efficiencies. Therefore, insight into the compound’s structure-gelation relationship will provide valuable information, which can enlighten the readers on the design and development of novel metallogelators.
