Abstract

A successful AMI (advanced metering infrastructure) project requires three key success factors, namely Technology, Implementation and Integration. The challenges in project implementation should not be underestimated for the case of high urban density cities. This article is focused on introducing the integrated approach in AMI system design, including smart meters, acquisition terminals, communication network, HES (Head End System) and MDMS (Meter Data Management System). Project implementation experience for high urban density are shared in the areas of communication mode optimization, cyber security, advanced application of data, etc. which have critical effect in facilitating smooth implementation of the whole AMI system. Details on findings are shown including on-site communication mode system testing, Key Management System (KMS) deployment to ensure end to end cyber security, Interface Isolation between private and public network, etc.
