Abstract

Algebraic multigrid (AMG) is an efficient iterative method designed as a “black box” solver that uses the principles of geometric multigrid methods. The components necessary for the multigrid cycling process are automatically constructed using information taken from the matrix itself. The method does not require uniform grids, making it an attractive approach for problems in structures and elasticity. Here we describe the method and give results for a model plane elasticity problem.
