Abstract

A review of: Jon Meacham, American Gospel: God, the Founding Fathers, and the Making of a Nation (New York: Random House, 2006). 416 pp. $23.95. Meacham's conclusion that Americans only need to ‘tell [their] own story’ is too simple, however, because of the problems caused whenAmerican policymakers assume that other nations should follow the same religious freedom path as the United States.
