Abstract
Abstract : While the United States armed forces are working hard to defeat terrorists wherever they can be found the country is also engaged on the information front to accelerate the introduction of democracy into the Middle East. To fight terrorism one significant aim of the US National Security Strategy (NSS) is to use this moment in history to introduce the benefits of freedom into the region. The United States government (USG) is attempting to reduce popular support for terrorist organizations while encouraging Muslims to embrace democracy. This paper will review various causes of disenchantment in Muslim populations then turn to analyze the ongoing information offensive of the USG to determine if the USG is using the correct information tools. The United States Department of State (DoS) has the highest profile among USG entities in this endeavor so this paper will focus on their initiatives.
