Abstract

The ASCE Policy on the Registration of Engineers, and Position Paper With Respect to the Model Law, as prepared by the ASCE Committee on Registration Engineers and adopted by the ASCE Board of Direction on March 8-9, 1965, are here presented. The American Society of Civil Engineers endorses and supports the registration of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors as being in the best interest of the general public. The actions taken by the Society and questions regarding registration that still exist are discussed. In a discussion of A Model Law—A Guide for the Preparation of Uniform Laws for the Registration of Engineers and Land Surveyors, (adopted by the National Council of State Boards of Engineering Examiners in 1960, and revised in 1962, 1963, and 1964) areas of major disagreement with Society policy are noted.
