Abstract

ABSTRACT The dispute over the status of the Western Sahara is one of Africa's longest running conflicts. This article reviews U.S. policy on this question from the Ford administration to the Obama administration. The argument is advanced that not only is it in American interests to promote a realistic solution, but that the lack of such is the greatest obstacle to achieving U.S. policy objectives in the Maghreb region and beyond.
