Palmer is the Canada Research Chair and Chair of the Department of Canadian Studies at Trent University in Peterborough, Canada. A Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, he edits the journal Labour/Le Travail. He is the author of ten books, a number of which have been translated and republished in Greek, Portuguese, Spanish, Korean, and other languages. His most recent publication is James P. Cannon and the Origins of the American Revolutionary Left, 1890–1928 (Urbana, IL: University of Illinois Press, 2007). Palmer is currently working on a second volume on Cannon's life in the years 1928–1974, as well as a study of Canada in the 1960s, exploring the ironies of national identity. ∗Bryan D.
