Abstract

Abstract The American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP; http://www.abpp.org ) was originally established as the American Board of Professional Examiners in Psychology (ABEPP) in 1947. This followed recognition by the American Psychological Association (APA) of a need for assessing competency in professional psychology (Brent, Packard, & Goldberg, 1999). APA provided some initial funding for the establishment of the ABPP. Brent et al. (1999) provide a thorough history of ABPP through the late 1990s, and they detail the organizational evolution of ABPP.
