Abstract

This essay, on the relation between the military strategies of American imperial ambitions and the protocols of finance as a means of managing the affairs of daily life, is meant to advance a cultural Marxism that reads the contemporary discourse and practice of political economy. Specifically, I argue that the embrace of risk and the logic of pre-emption that govern financialization can illuminate the present logic of self-managed imperialism that goes under the name of the war on terror.
