Abstract

Ameloblastic fibroma is a rare benign odontogenic tumor representing 0.9% to 2.4% of odontogenic tumors. The most affected region is the posterior mandible, and it occurs more often in adolescents and young adults. A 14-year-old female patient with dark skin presented an enlarged mandibular body, asymptomatic. On panoramic radiography, a unilocular radiolucent lesion with a well-defined margin was observed. Incisional biopsy was performed, and the histopathologic examination showed cellular mesenchymal tissue, reminiscent of the primitive dental papilla, and proliferation of the odontogenic epithelium in the aspect of narrow and long cords, compatible with ameloblastic fibroma. Enucleation was performed; however there was recurrence after 10 months. A new surgery with peripheral osteotomy was performed, and the patient is being followed up.
