Its protean clinical manifestations make it a difficult diagnostic problem at times, but early treatment has such an important bearing on prognosis that its prompt recognition is important. Unfortunately, most reports have emphasized the clinical picture of amebic abscess, usually a late manifestation of the disease, so that many cases go unrecognized and untreated.Numerous studies1have established the fact that amebiasis of the colon is a relatively common disease in the United States.
