Abstract

Taking account of the fact that the Internet now allows access to Virtual Learning Space (VLS), this study considers the place of creativity in the preparation of learning materials, bearing in mind that students of all ages have high expectations from mediated course content. An investigation undertaken with leading exponents in the production of mediated communication materials led to discussion of a range of creative techniques and methods employed by reflective practitioners. Their views indicated, amongst other outcomes, that prescription should stimulate rather than limit creativity in educational contexts. It also confirmed that learning materials need to take account of previous experience and cultural conditioning in the learner, on the understanding that these factors contribute to successful information transfer and recall. The aim of this paper is to encourage course leaders and developers to extend creative approaches into dissemination areas now available through new technology, in order to enhance the learning experience and help to promote successful outcomes.
