Abstract

Ambophthalmos eurystigmatephoros n. sp. is described from three specimens collected from the Campbell Island Rise south of New Zealand. It differs from its two congeners in having cranial arches 3-6 each at least 15% wider and in having cirri size and degree of ornamentation intermediate between A. magnicirrus, with welldeveloped cirri, and A. angustus, with sparse, short, and simple cirri. It further differs from A. magnicirrus in having arch 2 anterior of midpoint of orbit and anterior nostril tubes longer than the posterior ones. It is similar to A. magnicirrus and differs from A. angustus in having large frilled cirri above each eye and in having large blotched markings versus small spotted pigmentation.
