Abstract

Amathillopsis roroi sp. n. from the Antarctic Ocean is described herein, the second record of the Amathillopsinae from this region. The new taxon differs from all other known species of this family by only having 1 very short tooth on peronite 7, a short mid-dorsal tooth on pleonites 1–2 and an upright short tooth on pleonite 3. The new taxon does not bear the conspicuous spine-like seta on the posterior margin of the propodi of pereopods 3 and 4 that are characteristic for many Amathillopsis species.
