Abstract

Professor Farid Chemat (Université d’Avignon, France) was a great scientist in the field of green extraction of botanicals who passed away in 2023. He was the man behind the ‘eco-extraction’ mission of botanicals. Prof. Farid had developed various eco-extraction models namely, solvent-free microwave extraction protocol, microwave hydrodiffusion and gravity protocol dedicated especially for essential oil extraction. The basic purpose of this review is to pay scientific tribute to the legendary scientist by amalgamating his research footprints on eco-extraction and consolidating the same into a teaching manual for young researchers inclined towards green extraction of botanicals. Data mining was performed from SCOPUS and navigated as per the inclusion criterion. The authors have critically opined on the preference of plant, plant family, plant part and eco-extraction models used by Prof. Farid. A summary of critical learning from Prof. Farid's work have been presented along with bibliometric analysis to understand his collaboration networking.
