Abstract

1. In the presence of Ti(III) and Mo(III) pyrocatechol complexes, sodium amalgam reduces nitrogen in aqueous solutions to N2H4 and NH3 in parallel reactions. 2. The Ti(III) pyrocatechol complexes play an important role in forming the structure of the active sites containing molybdenum which are responsible for the reduction of nitrogen and the evolution of hydrogen from water.
