Abstract

Farming or sowing seeds during the day can be time-consuming and recognized as hard physical work. Moreover, these agricultural activities can cause ergonomic stress and may lead to chronic back pain. Hence, farmers and farm owners are starting to look for alternative ways to make the process of planting easier and safer. To address the problem, the researchers developed an automated seed sowing robot with an Android mobile application that will interact to it. The automated seed sowing robot should be able to ensure precision of seed dropping and plow the soil using a rechargeable battery to power up the robot. The mobile application should be able to connect with the robot, display the battery and seed level, set the length and width of the field size, and control the start and stop and maneuvering of the automated seed sowing robot. After developing and testing the automated seed sowing robot and the Android mobile application through prototyping, the seed sowing robot was able to successfully plow and dig a depth of 1.5-inch in soil, plant seeds with equal spacing distance of 15 inches between rows and 22 inches apart in each column. The power supply was enough to give power to the components of the robot for 4 hours and maintained its pace. The robot and its communication with the mobile application retained Bluetooth connection within a 30-meter perfect line of sight resulting to the correct and accurate passing of data from one to the other. The Android mobile application was able to control the manual movement and start the automated planting of the seed sowing robot. With this, the difficulty of planting corn seeds manually can be reduced by using this project as a substitute or as a helper for the farmers when sowing corn seeds.
