Abstract

A 38-year-old male patient came with a right thigh mass for more than two years and persistent cough for two months. Physical examination showed another two nodules on both sides of the chest wall, about 2×1×1 cm in size (Fig. 1). After admission, biopsy of the right thigh mass and two chest wall nodules revealed an alveolar soft part sarcoma (ASPS), which was a rare soft tissue sarcoma with unknown histogenesis. The term ”alveolar” is used to describe its morphological feature under microscope, i.e. alveolus-like in histological picture. The term ”soft part” means soft tissue origin. ”Sarcoma” means it is a malignatnt neoplasm from mesoderm. Craniotomy and tumor excision was done two months later due to brain metastasis with severe headache. Patient and his family refused any further aggressive treatment, such as chemotherapy or radiotherapy, except necessary symptomatic treatment. The patient died nine months after his first admission due to multiple metastasis. The clinical course, pathological features, and possible origin were presented and discussed.
