Abstract

The altitudinal vegetation belts of Japan are divided into four: (1) the hilly belt, (2) the montane belt, (3) the subalpine belt, and (4) the alpine belt. In Central Japan, the montane belt occurs between elevations of 500 to 1500 m, the subalpine belt, between 1500 to 2500 m, and the alpine belt, over 2500 m.
