Abstract

Although Cuba is much poorer than many nations, its health data rival those of industrialized countries. This article analyzes the basic elements of the Cuban health care system, explaining why it compares favourably to models of developed countries. The article argues that the model is not exclusively sui generis, and assesses those aspects of the Cuban approach that could be exported elsewhere.
