Abstract

Voting is an integral element of representative democracy, serving as a mechanism for citizens’ political participation. However, there are signs of political disengagement globally, including in the Czech Republic. This article discusses an online political game called Prezident 21 (P21) which applied an alternative voting method called D21 through an ICT platform. The game ran simultaneously with the 2018 Czech Presidential elections. The broad popularity of P21 and the variation of its results from the actual presidential election outcomes suggests that an approach of utilizing ICT to apply alternative voting methods may help to revive political participation in democratic contexts.
