Abstract

Although vascular access is a critical intervention for patients on dialysis, guidelines in this area are based on low-quality research that is mainly observational in nature. To improve patient outcomes, Nicholas Inston believes a patient-centred, multidisciplinary approach to care should become the gold standard. He outlines four alternative, evidence-based strategies for vascular access teams to consider.
