Abstract
This paper presents the solutions provided by ABB Station Service Voltage Transformer (SSVT) to be an alternative power source in various kinds of substation applications. A SSVT is a hybrid type of instrument transformer which incorporates features of a high voltage inductive voltage transformer with that of a distribution transformer to offer a compact and reliable power source. Based on different parameters of power and output voltages, SSVT can be used as cost-efficient and reliable control power source which enhances implementation of Smart Grid concept, and in other applications requiring quick and simple scheme of power source; e.g. rural electrification, construction power. Actual reference cases are briefly demonstrated to illustrate how SSVT is applied to provide power in the different substation applications. ABB has delivered many SSVT products both oil- and SF6-insulated types in substations around the world in such applications which can support the Smart Grid concept as well as enable the use of power grid more efficiently.
