Abstract
Background: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is the most common reproductive endocrine disorder affecting millions of women. Adolescents are increasingly being diagnosed with PCOS and often experience distressful symptoms such as acne and hirsutism as well as metabolic problems including hyperlipidemia, hypertension, and insulin resistance/type 2 diabetes. Many adolescents and their parents are hesitant to start traditional PCOS treatments (oral contraceptive pills, metformin, anti-androgen agents).
