Abstract

The paper presents two optional methods for wave motion modelling. The first one is the classic Finite Difference Method (FDM). It is grounded on transforming Partial Differential Equation (PDE) to difference equation and resolving the latter on a discrete grid. The second method bases itself on the theory of Cellular Automata (CA), and more precisely on a model defined as Lattice Gas Automata (LGA). Modelling algorithms and simulation of simple wave motion using the two aforementioned methods are shown. The drawbacks and advantages of both techniques are discussed and their potential application to modelling the acoustic wave in urban agglomerations is outlined.
