Abstract
The Mitra-Rajaraman method, which involves no Wess-Zumino fields, is applied to construct a gauge-invariant formulation of the generalized Schwinger model. It is shown that the gauge-invariant and the gauge-non-invariant versions of the model have the same physical content.
