Abstract

Expanded governmental regulation of the construction industry and increased disputes over professional liability are contributing to a rapid expansion in construction Quality Assurance (Q/A) programs. Recent developments that have contributed to the more widespread use of construction Q/A programs are briefly reviewed. Q/A programs initiated and developed by project designers, by specialized consultants, by owners, and by contractors are identified and examined. Alternative types of Q/A programs, their potential benefits and limitations, and their common applications are reviewed.
