Abstract

An approximate solution in analytical form for the size distribution change of a condensationally growing aerosol is derived for the continuum regime. The solution correlates the size distribution of aerosol particles with a log-normal function. The derived solution consists of three parameters of the log-normal size distribution. It is compared with the exact solution, and the advantage of the new solution is discussed. The effect of polydispersity on the condensation rate is shown from the solution obtained. It is found that the increasing rate of the total volume concentration of a polydisperse aerosol is lower than that for a monodisperse aerosol.
