Glaucoma is the first cause of irreversible blindness worldwide. It is estimated up to 1.94 million inhabitants with glaucoma in our country. The glaucoma management faces several and severe issues, besides the fact that up to 80% of the patients worldwide does not comply with the pharmacological treatment. Based on that situation, a panel of experts analyzed the current glaucoma state of the art in Mexico and the advantages, limitations, and treatment alternatives. The academic coordinator distributed a Delphi questionnaire to the group. The studies of the patients that include the diverse indicated therapeutic options were mapped. The group analyzed the barriers and opportunities for implementing new treatments for glaucoma. They provided recommendations for improving the treatment and mitigate unmet needs. It is recommended to enhance the continuing medical education efforts on glaucoma in the general Ophthalmology services and promote early referral to the glaucoma experts to provide timely interventions, save resources, and improve both the treatment outcomes and the patients’ quality of life.
