Abstract

The technologies considered fall into two broad categories, near-term alternatives (nuclear fission, coal, cogeneration, load management, and conservation) and long-term renewable resources (solar energy, wind, geothermal, hydroelectric and biomass power, waste/landfill energy reclamation and nuclear fusion). The technological and environmental problems of both categories are discussed.
