Abstract
Deoxyuridine triphosphatase and uracil-DNA glycosylase were assayed in K12 cells, a Chinese hamster temperature-sensitive mutant known to arrest in G1 when shifted to the non-permissive temperature. Stimulation of cell division resulted in an increase of both enzyme activities. Levels of both enzymes were minimal during G0 and maximal in S phase. By contrast, apurinic/apyrimidinic site endonuclease activity, which incises the DNA at the apyrimidinic site generated by the glycosylase, was constant throughout the cell cycle.
