Abstract

The activity of tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) dopamine-β-hydroxylase (DBH) monoamine oxidase (MAO) and DOPA-decarboxylase (DDC) was studied in the locus coeruleus (LC) of rats injected intracisternally with 5,6-dihydroxytryptamine (5,6-HT). TH activity was significantly increased one day after 5,6-HT treatment and remained elevated until day 8. DBH activity was significantly increased from 5 to 8 days after injection of 5,6-HT. Kinetic studies indicated that the V of these enzymes was increased, while their Km̌ values for substrates and cofactors were not altered. MAO and DDC activities were not altered by intracisternal 5,6-HT.
