Abstract

Souza, O. F. e Pires Neto, C. S. Annual alterations on physical development of boys aged 9 to 10 years old. Rev. Bras. Cien. e Mov. 10(3): 19-24, 2002. The purpose of this study was to analyze annual alterations of physical development of boys from age 9 to 10 years old. Subjects were 14 white boys studied 12 months apart all of who were enrolled one a public school in the city of Santa Maria, RS, Brazil. At the first data collection students were 9.36 ± 0.30 and the second 10.34 ± 0.30 years old. Annual alterations on stature (ST), body mass, body mass index, ponderal index, the relations of bi-acromial breadth by biiliac breadth and sitting height by ST, % BF, fat mass, lean body mass, total body adiposity (sum of eight skin fold thicknesses), sum of trunk skin fold thicknesses divided by the sum of limb skin fold thicknesses, arm and leg circumferences, standing long jump, curl-up, shuttle-run and seat-and-reach tests were longitudinally followed. Factorial analyses were used to identify annual alterations on physical development. It was identified five groups of factors that best represented annual alterations on physical development of those boys. In conclusion, these factors accounted for 80,58% of annual alterations on physical development of those students.
