Al-Taqdim wa al-Ta'khir: Linguistic Rules in Qur'anic Interpretation

Abstract

This scientific article discusses the concept of Al-Taqdim wa al-Ta’khir in the context of language in the interpretation of the Qur'an. Al-Taqdim wa al-Ta’khir are important principles in Arabic that are influential in understanding the Qur'anic text. Al-Taqdim refers to the order of words in a sentence, while Al-Ta'khir refers to the emphasis or delay of words in a sentence. In the Qur'anic exegesis, a correct understanding of these principles can affect the interpretation and meaning of Qur'anic verses. This article will discuss how Al-Taqdim and Al-Ta'khir are used in Qur'ānic exegesis and how these principles can help in understanding the meaning of the sacred text. In addition, this article will illustrate the important role of Al-Taqdim wa al-Ta’khir in assisting mufassirs (exegetes) in dealing with complex Arabic language challenges that may arise in the Qur'anic verses.  The research method used in this study was library research using a descriptive-analytic research approach. The research was carried out in two stages. The first stage is deductive by finding various studies or references regarding Al-Taqdim wa al-Ta’khir and discussing them in general. The second stage is inductive, by quoting, managing, and analyzing various relevant literature on the subject matter, reviewing, and concluding. The results showed that Al-Taqdim wa al-Ta’khir in the rules of tafsir is related to the memorization and meaning of the verses of the Qur'an. Al-Taqdim wa al-Ta’khir is putting words in the order before and after the original order. This is because of a certain necessity or urgency. These changes result in confusion about the meaning or loss of beauty of the word order. However, it is better to put it first if there is a specific meaning conveyed by the change in order. This is so long that the change is justified by the rules of language.
