Abstract

The energy and angular distributions of α-particles in the reaction 197Au(γ, α) have been measured at nine different angles for bremsstrahlung with peak energy 500 MeV. The measurements were made using a telescope consisting of three Si surface-barrier detectors. The experimental results are compared with cascade-evaporation calculations and the angular distribution indicates the presence of directly emitted α-particles in competition with evaporated ones.
