Abstract

Pseudorapidity-density distributions of shower particles from 12A-GeV/c \ensuremath{\alpha}-emulsion interactions are presented. As compared to extrapolations from p-nucleus data, the central \ensuremath{\alpha}+(Ag,Br) interactions exhibit an excess of particles in the middle pseudorapidity region. The correlation between 〈\ensuremath{\eta}〉 and 〈${n}_{s}$〉 can be understood within a wounded-nucleon model.
