Abstract

Alpha particles near 10 Mev were detected following thermal neutron capture in Sm/sup 149/ Sm/sup 147/, and Nd/sup 143/. Branching ratios to the excited states of the residual nuclei were measured. Relative probabilities of alpha emission to that of capture gamma rays were found at 10/sup -4/ to 10/ sup -6/. Upper limits for sigma (n, alpha ) in Nd/sup 145/, Gd/sup 155/, and Gd/ sup 157/ are given. Spin and pari ty assignments are made for the capturing compound states in Sm/sup 150/, Sm/sup 148/, and Nd/sup 144/. (L.N.N.)
