Abstract

Alopecia areata is an HLA-restricted, T-cell-mediated autoimmune reaction targeting the anagen (growing) hair follicle, which can proceed to total body hair loss (alopecia1 universalis, AU). Experimentally, alopecia areata can be transferred by T cells within human skin grafts in a mouse model, but such investigations were not possible in humans before allo-SCT.1
