Abstract

Almost a quarter of emergency medicine trainees do not plan to work in either the specialty or the United Kingdom once they have completed their training, a survey has found. Almost 900 trainees (81% response rate) from all four UK countries responded in July 2013 to the survey,1 which was carried out by the College of Emergency Medicine. The survey asked about trainees’ plans, ambitions, and opinions about working as an emergency medicine consultant, as well as the impact of the Modernising Medical Careers programme and run-through training.
