Abstract

Alloys of the Al – Cu system have high strength at room temperature due to forming CuAl 2 strengthening phase within their structure. However, they have reduced processing properties (fluidity, hot-shortness) due to a broad solidification range. The main trend of cast aluminum alloy development of the Al – Cu system with an optimum combination of mechanical and processing properties is alloying. Addition to these alloys of magnesium causes formation of a eutectic phase, which facilitates improvement of their processing properties due to a reduction in the effective solidification range. The aim of this work is to find an alloy composition based on the Al – Cu – Mg system with addition of manganese, zinc, scandium, zirconium, and to develop its heat treatment regime using structural analysis.
