Abstract

These personal recollections include first the genesis of the concept of allosteric interaction between topographically distinct sites from experimental studies with the bacterial regulatory enzyme L-threonine deaminase. Then, the origins of the concept of cooperative conformational transition between discrete states of oligomeric protein quaternary structure are examined. Last, these views are extended to the properties of membrane parmacological receptors.
